When tar spot is detected mid-season, immediate action is essential to prevent severe yield losses.

PROBLEM

  • Tar spot pressure was identified in 41% of the field in mid-July following Mission 5.
  • Yield loss from tar spot can be severe, with up to 50 bushels per acre observed in some cases.
  • The disease is difficult to spot, requiring detailed scouting, which was successfully aided by the georeferencing feature in the Taranis mobile app.

RECOMMENDATION

  • Crop advisor was able to confirm what appeared in the insight
  •  Apply Veltyma or Trivapro (upsell from the retailer) at $26/ac + $14 for application +adding some adjuvants & insecticides ~$5 = $45/acre:
  •  Retailer 30% margin is equal to $13.5 additional sales per acre
  •  There were 7,190 affected acres X $13.5 = $86,280
  •  Monitor disease spread and consider third fungicide application
  • Tagged leaf-level tar spot insight in Taranis web app (manually circled black spots)

OPPORTUNITY

Retailer Opportunity
Expand fungicide sales by demonstrating the value of VT/R1–R3 applications — in this case, protecting up to 24 bushels/acre — and engage the 60% of growers who currently don’t apply.

Grower Opportunity
Safeguard yields and profitability with timely fungicide use — up to 24 bushels ($96/acre) protected — while gaining peace of mind through monitoring, hybrid evaluation, and stronger advisor support for next season.
