  • As the season progressed, the waterhemp issue persisted, and pigweeds began to emerge, reaching a stage where they can no longer be effectively controlled.


RECOMMENDATION

  • For this season, the weeds under the canopy cannot be addressed due to their advanced growth stage.
  • However, knowing this field is prone to weed problems, a different and more aggressive management program should be planned for the next season.


OPPORTUNITY

  • Early weed detection indicated an opportunity for additional herbicide applications, which could have mitigated the problem.
  • Grower and advisor developed a comprehensive management plan to handle this hard to kill weeds.
  • Retailer sold $40 premium herbicide for next season, grower faced 23 bushel difference if waterhemp keeps taking over the field $92 per acre
